Diesel Pushers RV Motorhome

When to consider buying a diesel pusher?

For RV's more than 35 feet in length you might seriously consider the advantages of a diesel pusher. Plus if you drive through much hilly terrain, the extra power is a welcome addition. While it's true the diesel engine characteristics are still apparent, but their effects have been greatly reduced. Diesel engines being produced today are far more quiet and efficient than their predecessors.

The cost for a diesel is another major point. Diesels are more expensive to buy. Fuel costs are slightly higher then gasoline powered vehicles, but this is offset by better fuel economy than its gasoline counterpart. The onset of winter brings it's own set of fuel concerns. Icing and gelling can occur in the fuel tank, which necessitates special care. There are a number of fuel additives available to recvtify these problems should they occur. One other thing to keep in mind is diesel fuel is besty used fresh, and not allowed to sit up for too long. Fueling up along the countries highways and interstates, with the millions of diesel thirsty semi-trucks running constantly, insures a good supply of fuel.

Your diesel pusher will probably need less routine maintenance over time, but when work is required, it will definitely cost more and not every shop can do the job. However, diesel engines are extremely durable and should last a long time. This workhorse reputation could also work in your favor come trade-in time.

The best answer to the question is to take a comprehensive test drive. Don't be afraid to take weeks if not months of test driving both gas and diesel powered models until you find the right vehicle for you.
